Legacy — A project by the Nest Collective
NOTE: This video contains scenes of a disturbing nature. Viewer discretion is advised. Jarel Nduba performs “Mwewe” from the Legacy project – originally performed by now-defunct pop group: SEMA (2005).
This compilation album features eight reworked tunes from some of Kenya’s favorite artists, released in the last decade. The re-done tracks were so good, they left us wanting more and more throwbacks from that significant era in Kenya’s music scene.
Legacy is the culmination of a challenge we gave to young Kenyan singers to cover eight Kenyan pop songs released before the year 2010. From classics like Nameless and Amani’s “Ninanoki” which ushered in a new wave of Kenyan contemporary pop music, to the tongue-in-cheek hip-hop commentary of K-South and Fundi Frank’s “Ndai”, the seven participating singers have recreated and re-imagined these eight songs to discover how our musical past is influencing the future. — The Nest
