Dating and your Budget
At one or more points in our lives we have dated someone we fancy. The saying is that “Love makes the world go round’; and with love comes dating which in turn needs finances to facilitate. Sometimes the dating could lead to a full blown relationship which also need finances or it may be a short lived experience amounting to nothing; after the its not you it’s me speech. Really!
Anyway, successful dating or not, it is imperative to always keep your finances at the back of your mind. A night at Villa Rosa Kepinsky might grab you headlines but in reality will only put a huge dent in your pocket; notwithstanding the size of your bank account. However, in the same breath taking your date to the roadside café will probably get you the “it’s not you” line.
Always take your income into consideration and have an entertainment budget within this. Pulling cash randomly out of your ATM for dates will come back to bite you in the you know where eventually. Date within your means while ensuring you show your date a good time. Embarrassment of ‘kuchonga viazi’ will only get you that old tired line we will speak of one only one more time in this post.
A coffee date is the most advisable date when starting to get to know someone; No offence to the high rollers who fly their objects of affection to exotic places at the beginning of the relationship, but I find coffee dates the best way to begin knowing someone. It’s not too intimate, it has a casual feel to it and it is definitely friendlier on the pocket; I would save the dinner dates and exotic destinations for when you are better acquainted and your budget has grown up.
If you have to go for a dinner date, go easy on your pocket. Luckily we live in a country where there are quite a variety of options to eat out at pocket friendly prices. Franchise fast food joints, coffee houses, steak houses and so on offer a good ambience and are affordable. There are a number of these for different price ranges and where to go depends entirely on the size of your entertainment budget.
Staying indoors for a home cooked meal is always a pocket friendly option. This can reduce your expenses by up to two thirds with the bonus of a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere. have dinner at home by candle light and throw a bottle of good inexpensive wine to the mix to help you stay within budget.
Picnicking is another way of staying within your budget while dating. There are lots of beautiful places in this country to go for picnics. The food for this can also be homemade and picnics are much more relaxing than restaurants and clubs.
Go easy on tokens of you affections as well. Save the asset type of gifts for when you get to the point of partnership, read marriage. Very few things quite hurt as much as seeing someone you used to date enjoying your gift when you are no longer together. Keep your dating gifts within your entertainment budget and remember as the saying goes, it is the thought that counts.
If you are on a budget, clubbing should be the very last option to take your dates. We all know our self-control diminishes as the alcohol flows and money is usually the first victim of this; especially with mobile banking which enables you access more of your money right from the bar counter.
All in all have and entertainment budget and strive to work within it for all things entertainment. That includes dating. At the end of it all, your future financial stability is more important for you and your date; that if that tired line we shall no longer speak of is never uttered by either of you.
