About Phy

Phy is a Nairobi based musician. She started singing at a very young age, her incredible talent was recognized early on when at only eight years old she scooped the overall number one position at the Kenya music festival for the solo classical piece in her age category. Her musical journey saw her enrolling at the kenya conservatoire music after high school where she majored in voice and music theory. In 2011 PHY came together with a group of friends, Michael Mwikamba(Vocals), Collins kembo(Vocals)i, and Josh(who later on left the group) and formed PHY AND THE BAND. Their sound was heavily influenced by the Afro/Urban genre. They built a name for themselves in the Nairobi live music scene, building a solid fan base that were hooked to their sound. Josh later on left the group(citing personal reasons) and was replaced by Ken albert Orwa. In 2014 PHY felt that her time and journey with band was over and she needed to create her own musical journey. She remains very close with all her former band mates. Her own musical journey starts now. Her musical taste is an eclectic array of genres and sub-genres(She lists acts such as Mali music, India arie, Fena gitu as some of her inspirations) that is all served create what many could only describe as PHY-music.
