The Naked Convos Africa’s Answer To Medium Launches in Kenya
The Naked Convos (TNC), Africa’s largest digital open publishing platform and the foremost online community for expression has launched in Kenya. Created to encourage open and honest conversation among the youth, TNC prides itself on the original, authentic and uninhibited contributions of young Africans from the age of 18 to 40, which make up its primary pool of its contributors.
After successfully running in Nigeria for six years and in line with its mission to become the foremost community for expression in Africa, TNC, last week, as part of some major announcements to celebrate its six anniversary, announced the launch of its Kenyan site: www.thenakedconvos.co.ke
In the last year, TNC has grown in leaps and bounds, breaking online barriers with the bold move to introduce contributor monetisation by paying all it’s public contributors as well as introducing exciting new features in the sixth version of the platform which completed its transition into an open publishing platform. These innovations have resulted in a massive growth, with the Nigerian site registering over 500 contributors in just two months and recording over 2 million monthly page views.
Speaking in Lagos on the launch of the Kenyan site, Founder, Olawale Adetula said, “This year, during our annual online reality writing competition – ‘The Writer Competition’, we saw a significant increase in submissions from outside Nigeria. Two of our three judges were Non-Nigerian, Tendai Huchu from Zimbabwe and Lauri Kubuitsile from Botswana. Over 40% of the 4,000 submissions were from other African countries and the eventual first runner up, Ekari Mbvundula is Malawian. And so this seemed to be the right time for us to make deliberate steps toward becoming the foremost platform for expression in Africa.”
Olivia Kidula, the pioneer Editor of TNC Kenya, added, “As Africans, we have a shared heritage, and we have a shared culture. This means that we also share the need to express ourselves without judgment. The TNC vision is to be a community where young Africans can safely express themselves, in line with our tagline – ‘Express You,’ and what better way to do this, than to expand to every country in Africa – starting with Kenya.”
TNC Kenya received its first public submission just days after it was launched, and interest in the platform has continued to grow.
